In 2003, St. John's gave all incoming freshman a brand new lap top. All other student weren't given a lap top at
all. These freshman also had to pay a higher tuition than other students who had been at St. John's longer than they
had (about 2,000 more per year). The next year, St. John's expanded the lap top program and higher tuition to all transfers
and re admitted students.
Each laptop remains the property of the University until you graduate (4 years, although only 39% of students graduate
in 4 years ( http://members.ucan-network.org/pdf/u-can-739.pdf ). Thus the laptop costs about $8,000 ($2,000 for each year you are a student at the school).
Tuition today is 24,000 without dorms...
